If you have recently had sex and believe your period may have started early because of that, think again. Sex has nothing to do with your monthly cycle and never has or will. You must remember that menstrual cycles are not on set schedules and may start early one month and late in another month. But regardless, sex or lack of it will have no effect whatsoever on your period.

The menstrual cycle is the term used for the physical changes that occur in the bodies of fertile human females and in apes as well. The menstrual cycle has three distinct phases, the follicular phase, ovulation, and the luteal phase. During the menstrual cycle females can experience changes not only in their reproductive systems but other body parts as well. The breasts can become much more tender and many women are subject to mood changes. A female's first cycle typically occurs around the age of twelve years of age and typically ends around the age forty five to fifty five, and this is called menopause, when a women is no longer able to conceive a child.

There are several factors that can either speed up a first menstrual cycle or slow it down. Getting proper nutrition, heredity, and overall health play a big part in this. The length of as menstrual cycle will vary with some cycles lasting longer than others. Most women have one once a month and the entire cycle will last somewhere in the neighborhood of twelve or thirteen days.

Sex will not have any effect on the length or duration of your period. It won't bring it early or make it last longer. So go ahead and have a normal sex life and don't worry about it affecting either the length or the onset of your monthly cycle, it just never happens!

Hi, I am so happy you asked your doctor. I am not an active person, however when I get together with my ex abt once a year, it happens to me. Around the time I am suppose to have my period I get my period the next day after making love. This time it was a week before my pd and the next day after making love it appears that i will be getting my pd. I notice when I wiped.

God bless thanks for sharing

Well apparently it happens very commonly. I just got my period over a week early from have intercourse a few days ago. There is no other explanation....It does this every once in awhile. I have sex a few times a month and every other month my period will come in early. Doctors say it's normal and YES IT HAPPENS. It has something to do with hormones and when you climax because it makes your uterus contract.

I don't know about the facts but I know that every time I haven't had sex in a while and have sex my period ends up coming a week or two early. I don't have a very consistent sex life...that's how I was able notice the differences in my cycle.

Chilledpip,
the same has happened to me, twice. I had sex and two days later I got my period and it was a week early! Then a few weeks later I had sex and I got my period 2 days later AGAIN! This time my period was just over a week early again. My period comes every four weeks and is pretty much on time so this is really weird because it has happened twice in a row so I'm thinking that it is not a coincidence! And it is definately my period

It does not "start" your period early... It makes it come to the outside faster... The lining of the uterus starts to shed between 2-10 days before you see your period... So it makes the blood find its way out sooner.....
So yes and no

I totally agree...sometimes when I have sex I end up getting my period a week earlier than it supposed to be but I think its because I have intercourse that week that I'm going to it...so I strongly believe intercourse makes your period come sooner...

I have been on birth control for 2 years with a consistent period usually lasting 3-4 days. Lately it's been coming a week early, coincidentally right after having sex. The weirdest part is after 3-4 days we would have sex and shortly after I would have my period for a day, have sex when I got off it and it would be back again. If you consider this a menstrual cycle, I'm having 3-5 a month..somethings not right. I'll get back to you once I talk to my gyno

After having sex, I got my period 2 days later. I think its normal and looks like it is very commen. When having sex so many hormones are being stimulated and/or released, probably causing an egg to be relased into the fallopen tubes so it can be ferteralized by sperm. If the egg not ferteralized or if the egg doesnt sticks to the urterus.. You'll start your period, it is the body's way of desposing it. Sperm can live up to 72 hrs (3 days)... So yeah that makes sense. Its normal. Don't panic...

It is said that intercourse can alleviate period pains but I don't think you can bring your period on by having sex. If that were the case the more sexually active people would be menstruating all the time!

From what I know about sex and intercourse I would have to say no. The two have nothing to do with each other.

You should not have sex at an early age. It can bring on many diseases, such as Cervical Cancer. All you kids out there who are having sex too young are at danger of this. Remember someone who died of this last year, not allowed to say her name.
